Cannes is a city never short of glamour, hosting some of the glitziest festivals, events and parties, and the International Festival of Fashion and Beauty Photography
can be considered one of them. Ten years in the running, the Cannes Photo Mode Festival celebrates a round anniversary this year, calling for even more creative input, and will feature almost 200 international fashion and beauty photographers, exhibiting all around the city. Interactive, exciting and definitely stylish, Cannes Photo Mode 2012 is the one to watch!
Skin - Material Future

After its premiere at the Designmonat Graz, an exhibition by the SKIN
network called Material Future
is being put up at the designforum Wien. Established as a communication platform for designers of all fields, SKIN specialises in the development of new materials, believing in their importance in product innovation. The exhibit shows the progressive modern pieces, all made of pretty extraordinary materials, think wheat bran, reed or sheet metal, so expect anything but the mundane. The designer Sonja Bäumler, who we interviewed
, is also included in the exhibit. Unusual but utterly remarkable!

Austrian Fashion Showcase goes Paris

Paris is far from just a city of lights, it’s also a city overflowing with fashion. Some of the most important fashion trade shows take place here, among which is Première Classe
, an event bringing international accessory designers under one roof, including over 600 labels each season. The designer selection is handpicked, and it shows, so finding high quality pieces is a given. : Fashion & Art Collusion
is one of those projects that are on the radar of many. This art and fashion project includes an extensive cultural programme culminating in a fundraiser Gala, but the artist-fashion designer collaborations
are what everyone is talking about. Visual artists have teamed-up with fashion designers such as Peter Pilotto, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katranzou or Matthew Williamson, creating unique pieces showcasing the British talent. The special creations will be unveiled at the night of the Gala, and will then go on to be displayed at the V&A Museum for all to see.

The exhibit Reflecting Fashion
at the museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig wien (mumok) is set to look at the history of fashion and its relationship to art, focusing on the concept of modernity and the contemporary. It presents beautifully the interplay between art and fashion, but if that is not enough, a lecture called Is Fashion Art?
by the Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) Valerie Steele
is sure to make you pay a visit. Inspired by the Schiaparelli / Dali gown on display at the mumok, Steele will be discussing the extent to which clothes really can be seen as art pieces. A must-see in our opinion!

The End of Designer as Dictator
A lecture on the development of fashion is to be given at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) by the marketing expert from the University of Southern California- Joseph Nunes
. He will be reporting on ‘The End of Designer as Dictator: How Fashion Critics Affect Aesthetic Innovation’
, examining the power of the fashion critics in the contemporary fashion industry, as well as their effect on the designs themselves. Attempting to understand who decides what the new it item or trend is, Nunes will also be visiting the notion of fashion as creativity and an artistic practice, making it difficult to be labelled or constricted to the specific view of a chosen group of people.

is set for a grand comeback! The second edition of the stylish event has over 100 shops and department stores taking part in creating the best shopping atmosphere full of tempting discounts, limited edition pieces, fine champagne, good music, and more. The 3rd issue of the biannual Berlin based OE Magazine
is finally out. Providing an independent and diverse view on German fashion, with a special focus on the Berlin fashion scene, the mag has this time around enlisted 9 photographers, 8 stylists and other professionals in order to create 10 remarkable editorials, presenting over 80 labels. The new issue, under the working title I Am What I Am, is made to measure for a good style read with images out of this world. OE definitely is a visually exhilarating magazine and turning it into a collectible item is almost a must.
DAA T-Shirt Exhibition
The International project Designers Against Aids (DAA)
by the Belgian non-profit organisation Beauty Without Irony has been raising awareness about AIDS for some years now, hoping to reach young people and inform about the disease. Receiving a lot of support from international media, who are eager to promote a project of this importance and calibre, DAA has also enlisted over 150 artists to participate on the project by customising T-Shirts. An exhibition
presenting a selection of the best designs including T-Shirts by Diane Pernet & Pierre Marie Agin, Tim Van Steenbergen, Nathalie Hunter and Vienna based Designer Claudia Rosa Lukas and many many more has been put on to remember the great collaborations, as well as to remind of the importance of the issue. An exhibition with a message indeed!

PANik6: Performance as Vision
Visualisation, mediation and theatrical dramatization of the everyday are what performance art is made of. The visionary power of images and signs arising from it is hardly a topic to be overlooked, and so the sixth in line PANik evening is taking place. The artistically curated exhibition soiree by PAN (Performance Art Network Vienna)
is set to examine the performative wonders by presenting international artists and their own visions of the world. Expect conceptual artists such as Robert Jelinek, who shows his own take on synchronised swimming made into an utterly contemporary artistic performance. A special performance lecture on the subversive fashion project Voodoo Chanel
is also on the programme, held by Melissa Logan from Chicks On Speed.
